When the AutoSave feature is enabled, you rarely need the AutoRecover files to salvage your unsaved data. The AutoSave feature is available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac. So, you don’t need to worry about saving the file on the go. Probably the files seen on the PC are actually the online OneDrive files rather than locally saved files. But, the AutoSave feature is quite helpful to automate the manual save process. At this point, simply click on Save As with your mouse, then select the file format and save location. You will see the Duplicate option change to Save As. Autosave does work on my Window PCs - any file opened comes up with autosave on. While in any application on your Mac, click on File in the menu bar, then hold the Option key on your keyboard. As to why autosave appeared for the local Office 365 OneDrive files and then disappeared after the Mojave update, I have no idea and it appears no one else does. Not a big drama as you can always open and work on the online file (or choose you local file) through File>open.

It will automatically update to the online OneDrive after each manual save and reflect the file history. Type: /Library/Containers//Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery and click 'Go'. If opening a local Mac OneDrive file you need to save the file periodically as we all did before OneDrive came on the scene. Open 'Finder' on your Mac, then head to 'Go' > 'Go to Folder'. This is because it isnt always practical to have this functionality enabled.
Autosave only works when you open the file through your online OneDrive and not through the local OneDrive file saved to your Mac. Excel doesnt have the AutoSave feature enabled as default, you have to add it.
